RheesusPieces

RheesusPieces was a name I came up with...but that is as far as it got. I never did anything with it. It came to me when I was watching a television program about animal experimentation and the use of Rhesus Monkeys. Of course being post E.T., Reese's Pieces were popular, so the phrase jumped in my head. I figured that it would be the name of my band, if I ever had one, but I only had one thing stopping me...a complete lack of musical talent. It just kind of turned into a joke with me and some friends of mine. I even had a disgusting album cover design involving a bloody lab and plenty of monkey chunks. Well, nothing ever came of it...until one day when I was driving by the Ross and saw the name on the marquee. WTF?!?!? I knew nothing about it. After I made some calls, I found out that it was a friend of mine, TomDunville, that set the date with BillYancy. There was only one problem, there was no band. Looking back on it, I can't believe that I didn't show up just to see what happened. I think I was afraid of a full blown riot of dissatisfied ticket buyers. Anyways, Tom talked one friend into helping out, JimBlandford, and together they attempt a show. TWO MEN, TWO KEYBOARDS, ONE NIGHT ONLY. I love them both dearly but words cannot discribe how absolutely horrible this display must have been. Man, I wish I was there.

I plead Guilty!

They were the glory days for many of us. Just out of high school, instraments and some talent... and a place that would actually let you use the stage to perform. If you made enough money to buy the beer, it was worth it. As a band James and I performed to gigs: A Christmas party at the Timbers and the Ross. Coming out of HealthHazard, a band that in my incarnation never left the "garage stage"... I wanted to actually play somewhere. Yancy would let anyone have a chance. We had these Ensonic keyboards, so I said "James, let's do something crazy while we can?" He was heading to I.U. so it would be the last chance. I thought the name Anthony thought up was cool and deserved to get used, even if not by him. A spur of the moment band has no followers, so I had to create the illusion we were cool and from out-of-town. I drew up a flyer suggesting we were from Louisville Ky.; it had images of CuriousGeorge being tortured by lab guys. Phrases like "For Bill's sake" and "Impersonate the band- come HUNGRY!" . The tune list for the Ross gig included:

We had a crowd of 27 show that night; that's good for a midnight group of nobodys. It meant three cases of beer, a party back at Doug's... and we had done something to remember. It would be even easier to remember if we hadn't lost the video tapes we made... but those things happen. We've all faded, The Ross got destroyed by a neighberhood that hated it and bands are replaced by posers who spin turnstyles with bling and backward hats. But I got my piece of the moment. My last performance on stage was here at the House of Blues. I still have the balls to perform, if nothing else. thanks for remembering us, Doug.

It was actually pretty good! Worth every penny of the $3.00!
