Backup Routines Instituted
Spambots have been targeting certain pages. I have made a nice little scriptie that replaces them anon. Ho ho and also He he, O spambot jackholes.
The Forum Has Been Replaced!!!
I have installed new phpBB software: It looks lame, as I have not had time to ass with the colors, etc. I may be doing a complete refurb on the whole site soon as I will be home with Darby for half the week now. (Gales of laughter from other parents penetrate my bubble ...)
Q: Why don't you incorporate a stylesheet to make the site a little sexier? Try these: they're free, permanent, and groovy looking, and they require about 12 seconds' work to use.
-
A:Riiiiiight.
-
At this point I am managing 4 completely different stylesheets. One for crackrabbit proper, one for the piki, one for the blogs (which will probably be the one I work from) and one for the (broken) forums. Each was designed by the original programmer to look good in _one_ instance... Not to be pasted in without modification.
-
Stylesheets are great, but I code mine in a compliant browser, which means all the poor fuckers still using IE (may their pudenda blacken and crisp in the heat of my rage) will have a 50/50 chance of everything looking correct. :-/
-
In other words: I will have a coherent, site-wide stylesheet when I have a couple of days to rewrite a python-based piki and a php-based webboard.
-
Q: When are we going to be able to post pictures?
A: Probably never. I thought about making some adjustments to the pikipiki software so that would work... but Great Cthulhu's Stool Sample! Who has time for that? I thought about changing to some different software entirely, but it would be a pain in the butt to set up on a remote host (that doesn't specialize in it.. usually for a lot of money), and I really like the interface. It's butt-simple, anybody can post and its easy to fix if it gets broken. So send me pictures and I'll put them on the site and you can link to them from in here. Then everyone is happy.

Q: Assface. I am getting emails from good people who wish to view this mediocrity you have created. They have viewed before, yet now they cannot. I am sure it is your fault, because you are, as I said before: Assface.
A: Gentle Reader, I changed Web Hosting Providers. They offer improved uptime, better prices (Dreamhost.com - this shit is cheap!), more space for images, etc. If you are local to the Evansville area and have your DSL or Dial-up through Cinergy, my condolonces. My spies working within (who used to sport a 'hawk and dress like Frankenfurter) has told me that one of their DNS servers has not updated in quite a while, thus causing some folks to still get connected to my old provider (rootr.net - a good provider, but...) which no longer has my stuff. Dang. Please tell these folks to try the following:
Note that it has a .py extention, as opposed to the plain 'piki' ending from days of old. That may help. Probably not. I suggest complaining loudly to Cinergy.um, if you bug Cinergy, you will be bugging PaUlMcClureSmith , and he fixed it now!!!!yay Paul!!!!!
polly, back and loud
No, the old entries were still cached due to some mistakes on the other end (the old provider is still answering dns queries, and the ttl on the old entries is high). I put a temporary fix in place that should fix it. PEM

I'm sorry I like it , a few minor tweaks here and there and it's "Spot on", perhaps I should've visited the WhyDoesThisNotSuckSoDoug link ?
Would it help get this thing back on track as a Wiki if each page prominently featured a "discuss" link into the fora. I was stoked when I first encountered SOT80s as a documentary / scene encyclopaedia, but the chit chat aspects are getting me down. I know it's more social engineering than technical. Any other ideas how we might train the unwashed masses to use a Wiki properly...
-
Maybe Doug can split the Wiki in two...we can have PikiPiki Shame of the Eighties for it's intended purpose and PoliPoli Shame of the Abrams for the chatty stuff. - MAU
BWAAAA-Hahaaa-haaaaaa!!!!
That's why I asked Doug to create a message board....but if you can't beat 'em (etc.) WKB
Don't worry kids! The Great Redaction is roiling like Genghis Kahn across the Ohio River floodplain! Aieee!

"Doug, What is good in life?"
"To read the comments of your peers, to brutally alter them beyond recognition, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"
Doug: is there a way to make easy links into the fora? I tried to copy and paste a link to a thread, but it appears the URL arguments are very volatile. Is there any sense of a permanent link into those threads, e.g. by forum + thread name?
And Doug, I'm feeling a little hungry for some toast. Could you add that feature, please? Thanks!

I can't access this ftp - please help - though technically it is not your fault this link sucks so. A PC sucks so. SO SO. I am sad.Polls! Can we have polls?
Hey! I think you should translate this shiznit using gizoogle.
e.g. http://sites.gizoogle.com/?url=http://crackrabbit.com/

Gaaa! I've got my new forum name: Knipe-Brizzles the whip-weild'n slave-drivizzle!
Help Super Doug, Nusoap is blocking my access to the forum, what ever shall I do? Oh wretched day!
I can't get into the forum either. I don't know why - it's just gobbledygook to me: Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to dhsoapserver1.solid-arity.com:80 in /usr/local/dh/solidclient/NuSOAP/nusoap.php on line 1258.--WKB

i don't understand why such a semi-obscure [but beloved!] band would attract spam??
can someone explain this to me , in VERY simple terms?
polly

It has nothing to do with the band. The spambot (think of it as an autonomous tagger) somehow managed to stumble across this form and keeps revisiting it, replacing its current text with the spam links. It has happened to other pages on this site, but none in the past were so completely taken down by it.

Doug, is it possible to find this parasite in the logs and ban its network or user agent?

Yo! Nice to see you made the switcharoo to MoinMoin. I've been off the grid for a while and the site is looking great.
I noticed the subscribe feature doesn't work. It complains the Piki isn't set up for email, and says to contact the admin about either (duh) setting it up for email or removing the subscribe button. How about the former? I have to reload enough pages every five minutes! -T
I LOVE ALL THE FREE PORNOS!!
